Nature at Blue Lakes

The site contains a number of habitats and species important to the nature that has grown around the man-made lakes. Brown hare, lapwing and skylark are all present in the grasslands of the Blue Lakes. The natural biodiversity will be carefully managed to encourage enjoyment of the site through walking, bird watching, pond dipping and angling.

Fishing at Blue Lakes

Two of the Blue Lakes ponds are used for angling. The middle and upper ponds have evolved for high quality coarse fishing. Species of fish in the ponds include bream, eel, carp, three-spined stickleback, gudgeon, perch, roach and tench. The Lakes are managed by the Ebbw Vale Welfare Angling Club and only available to fisherman with appropriate permits.
